6 Wedding Trends In 2018
As tradition holds, there was again an influx of couples getting engaged during the summer. It is full steam ahead for planning their weddings. Naturally we have done our research on what the trend forecast is. Here are a few of our favourite trends the world will be seeing more of in 2018.
1. CELESTIAL THEMES
Couples will have stars in their eyes in 2018. Drawing inspiration from outer space, many weddings will have a dreamy, otherworldly feel to them. There are so many unique and beautiful ways to infuse your wedding with a celestial theme. You can use literal elements such as the sun, moon and stars or you can just be inspired by astrology and some of the beautiful patterns and colours to be found in the cosmos. Either way this theme gives you so much to work with and room to be creative when planning your wedding.
2. CAPES
This year many brides will rethink the classic veil. It is a popular idea to add some kind of element to your wedding dress that is removable. Inspired by the catwalk, this year many brides will strut down the aisle with a chic, flowing cape. These can be sheer, lace, pearl-encrusted, dramatically long or retro short. Other cover-ups that will also make an appearance this year include kimonos and hoods.
3. NEON SIGNS
Wedding décor that can be repurposed in your home is such a great idea. Not only does is make your love nest look beautiful, but it is also a special reminder of your wedding day that you see everyday. No statement piece will make a more seamless transition from wedding to home than a custom neon sign. This trend instantly adds a touch of personality, individuality, love and light to your wedding. Have one made with your last name, a favourite song lyric or phrase. The possibilities are endless.
4. TRANSLUCENT TOUCHES
We expect to see a surge of all things see-through; both in terms of venue and decor. Think glasshouses or marquees and spaces with full windows to perspex seating plans and tablescapes with an abundance of glass details. These light reflecting materials commands attention without distracting from the view.
5. EMPHASIS ON THE AFTER-PARTY
Of course nothing will every replace the ceremony and reception at a wedding, but a lot of couples are choosing to throw more resources into the late-night portion of the wedding. This is the time of the night that the guests enjoy themselves the most and the celebration aspect of the wedding truly comes through. This year we will see many couples choosing to add elements such as late-night food options, outfit changes or an entirely new location to maximise on this festive part of the evening.
6. VELVET
One of the most luxurious and promising themes of the year is the presence of velvet. Incorporating this tasteful material into your wedding will add a touch of sophistication and simple beauty. From a simple velvet ribbon adorning your bouquet to bold velvet linens, napkins, shoes or blazers the possibilities of incorporating this regal material are endless.
